I live in Vermont with my two children and two serial-killer cats. I love music for children - OK, I'm ... odd. I often listen to it when the kids aren't around. Still have my old Danny Kaye soundtrack to "Hans Christian Anderson." Can sing all the lyrics to "Uncle Pockets". Can sing all the lyrics to everything from the first Sesame Street album. Can sing all the lyrics to ... you get the picture.
I speak a smattering of French, a little Chinese, and I can read enough German and Spanish to navigate myself around the internet. I love looking around for foreign language children's music. Heck, I like it for adults, too. My children attend a Waldorf School where they started French and German in the first grade. I'm always looking for ways to reinforce what they're learning in school, and to drive home the point that there is a reason for it. There really are people out there who speak these other languages.
My credentials? Um, uh, ... don't you have to go reorganize your sock drawer?
You're still there? OK, so I'm not Ken Tucker. If you're Ken Tucker, I'm really, really sorry. I just ain't you (but I try). I grew up musical (guitar, voice, dance, theater). I love good quality art for kids. I read tons of books for little kids and big kids - I love talking about them, recommending them, thinking about them. But we don't need another blog about books for kids. (There are tons of good ones doing an excellent job already.)
I've traveled a bit; spent a year living in China (back in the 80's). I spend hours looking for foreign language music for kids. It took me forever to find this stuff. Somebody really ought to throw up a blog about it all...
Oh yeah, that would be me. Back to work.
